| Abstract | Applying the principles of poetic analysis (based on the work of D. N. Freedman) and rhetorical analysis (based on the work of J. Muilenberg), Bartelt examines the style and structure of Isaiah 2–12. He finds that the structure of this segment is based on 800 eight-syllable lines, the core being chapters 6–8, the section known as the “Book of Immanuel.” This central portion is ringed by two concentric circles that share its structural devices and thematic motifs. |
